Students are responsible for making up any work missed during an absence. Work that was ASSIGNED on the day of an absence will be assigned the day of return and students will be given the amount of time corresponding to the particular assignment to submit the work. Work that was DUE on the day of an absence is due the day the student returns to school. Note: If a student misses class due to a band sectional absence, they are still considered present at school and are responsible for submitting work due on the due date and completing any work assigned.
Assignments are given by teachers for practice, reinforcement, and application of skills. We expect students to complete all assigned work and turn it in on time. Please contact individual teachers for homework policies.
the 3 r's - respect, responsibility, ready for class
The 3 R’s were established to enhance the learning environment and enable all students to achieve success. Each teacher’s classroom rules are based upon these principles and consequences will apply to those students who choose not to honor them.
Students at HMS will be issued agenda books. These books are provided to help you keep track of important dates and assignments. You must carry these agenda books with you to all of your classes as your passes to leave a classroom are in these books, and this is monitored closely for your safety. Students must have ID badges to check out books from the media center.
Advisory programs promote students feeling “connected” to responsible and caring adults. At HMS, advisory is a 30-minute period scheduled at the beginning of each day. Team 8Black advisory activities for this year will focus on student involvement and RTI Tier 3 implementation. We generally have breakfast in the plaza & share team related announcements/awards on Tuesdays and have gym activities on Thursdays.
Students will not be allowed to carry purses/bags to class. For your own safety, these items must remain in lockers during class attendance.
Student safety and a positive learning environment are of utmost importance at Highland Middle School. We encourage parents, students, & community members to "Take a Stand" and address the issue of bullying in school. Click the tab to the right to report an issue.
